Dieter Roth

Went to see an exhibition of artist books by Dieter Roth at the fruitmarket gallery today. What a strange individual, he kept random scraps of what we would deem rubbish in hundreds of ring binders! Here are some images of his weird books and things.

It is often times a struggle for me to understand fine art. The reason I chose to pursue illustration, was because I like the things I make to have a purpose, even if that purpose is just looking good on a wall or in a book. I definitely appreciate the individuality of someone's work though, and the expression of their personal values and opinions.
